Kemadruma Yoga: Conditions, Qualifications and Misconceptions

Kemadruma is a traditional Moon-related configuration often presented online in frightening terms. An educational explanation should show how the rule is counted and which qualifications are being used. It should not tell a person that they are destined for poverty, isolation or mental illness.

Begin with the adjacent signs

A common starting check asks whether qualifying planets occupy the second or twelfth sign from the Moon. The Sun is excluded in the classical adjacent-planet formulations cited below. The treatment of nodes and additional cancellation rules should be stated explicitly rather than silently borrowed from another school.

Phaladeepika chapter 6, verse 5 discusses the adjacent-planet Yogas and then Kemadruma in their absence, followed by qualifying conditions. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra chapter 37, verses 11–13 includes conjunction and angular-placement considerations. Neither is adequately summarized by a badge based on two empty boxes alone.

Worked example: count from the Moon

If the Moon is in Cancer, the second sign from it is Leo and the twelfth is Gemini. Mercury in Leo supplies a qualifying neighboring planet under the simple non-Sun test. With no qualifying planets in either Leo or Gemini, that initial test is negative—but further conditions still need checking.

The person’s ascendant might be elsewhere. Reading the second and twelfth houses from the ascendant instead of from Cancer would answer a different question. Write both reference points clearly if the fuller method uses both.

Why cancellation lists need a source

Different treatments discuss conjunctions, angular placements and other support differently. Do not merge every favorable rule found online into one universal cancellation list. Record the base definition and the qualification from the same identified method. If the information needed to apply it is missing, say “not assessed,” rather than assuming the worst.

An empty neighboring sign is an observation about chart arrangement. Describing someone as emotionally unsupported is an interpretation, and diagnosing a condition is a further claim that the arrangement cannot establish.

How to respond to an alarming report

Ask the author to show the Moon’s sign, the neighboring signs, which planets were counted and which qualifications were checked. If the report cannot explain those steps, its conclusion is not transparent. No paid ritual or gemstone purchase is required to question it.

For a real concern about loneliness or wellbeing, begin with the person’s actual experience and available support. Do not infer the cause from a chart. A Yoga name should not discourage seeking appropriate help or be used to stigmatize someone.

Phaladeepika 6.5 and Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra 37.11–13 are historical references for the rules, not validation of their negative predictions. The Cancer example is our teaching exercise. Compare Gajakesari for another case where the reference point and textual formulation matter.
