Free Kundli Matching
Kundli matching (kundli milan) is the Vedic astrological practice of comparing two birth charts before marriage to assess compatibility. AstroMystra's AI analyzes the birth charts of both partners, evaluates the Ashtakoot guna milan score, checks for Mangal Dosha, and delivers a comprehensive Vedic compatibility reading — helping you understand the strengths and challenges of the match.
In Vedic tradition, kundli matching is considered one of the most important steps before a marriage. The practice dates back thousands of years and is based on the principle that two people's planetary configurations at birth either support or create friction when they come together. A well-matched kundli does not guarantee a perfect marriage, but it does highlight areas of natural compatibility and areas where extra care and communication may be needed.
The most widely used system for kundli matching is Ashtakoot Milan — the eight-fold compatibility test. 'Ashta' means eight and 'koot' means attribute. The eight kootas are Varna (spiritual compatibility), Vashya (dominance and attraction), Tara (birth star compatibility and health), Yoni (sexual compatibility and nature), Graha Maitri (mental compatibility and friendship), Gana (temperament), Bhakoot (emotional and financial compatibility), and Nadi (genetic and health compatibility). Each koota carries a different weight: Nadi is worth 8 points, Bhakoot 7, Gana 6, Graha Maitri 5, Yoni 4, Tara 3, Vashya 2, and Varna 1 — for a total of 36 possible points. A score of 18 or above is generally considered acceptable; 24 or above is considered good; 28 or above is considered excellent.
Mangal Dosha — also called Manglik Dosha or Kuja Dosha — is the other primary consideration in kundli matching for marriage. It occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house from the lagna or the Moon in a person's birth chart. The traditional concern is that a Manglik person marrying a non-Manglik person may face friction in married life. The accepted resolution in Vedic tradition is that two Manglik partners cancel each other's dosha. Many kundlis with Mangal Dosha also have cancelling factors (dosha bhanga) that significantly reduce or eliminate the effect.
Beyond the guna milan score and Mangal Dosha, a thorough kundli matching analysis also examines the 7th house (house of marriage and partnerships) in both charts — its lord, any planets placed there, and aspects on the house. The navamsha chart (the ninth divisional chart, specifically associated with marriage and the spouse) is also examined. Venus in a man's chart and Jupiter in a woman's chart are traditionally considered indicators of spouse qualities and marriage timing.
AstroMystra's compatibility analysis goes beyond the mechanical guna milan score. The AI reads both charts holistically — identifying points of deep natural harmony (where planetary energies support each other across both charts) and points of potential friction (where conflicting energies may show up in the relationship over time). This gives you a nuanced picture rather than just a number.
Provide the date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth for both partners. Accurate birth time is important — it determines the lagna and nakshatra for each person, both of which are central to the compatibility analysis.
AstroMystra generates the complete Vedic birth chart for each partner using the sidereal zodiac. Lagna, rashi, nakshatra, and all nine planetary positions are computed for both charts. The Ashtakoot guna milan is calculated and Mangal Dosha is checked for both.
The AI delivers a complete kundli matching report — the guna milan score with breakdown by each koota, Mangal Dosha status for both partners, and a holistic AI interpretation of the inter-chart dynamics covering emotional, intellectual, and karmic compatibility.
The complete eight-koota compatibility score with individual points for each factor: Nadi (8), Bhakoot (7), Gana (6), Graha Maitri (5), Yoni (4), Tara (3), Vashya (2), Varna (1). Each koota is explained — not just the number, but what that specific factor reveals about the match.
Mangal Dosha status checked for both partners from the lagna and Moon placements. Dosha bhanga (cancellation) factors are identified where present. The finding is contextualised — the traditional concern, its significance in this specific chart, and whether cancellation applies.
Tara koota and Yoni koota both derive from the birth nakshatras of both partners. Your janma nakshatras determine natural harmony or friction in health, vitality, emotional rhythms, and physical compatibility — often the most revealing part of a kundli match beyond the total score.
Beyond the mechanical score: an AI-generated narrative that interprets both charts together — emotional attunement, communication styles, life values alignment, and the overall quality of the energetic match — giving you a richer picture than any number alone can provide.
Kundli matching (also called kundli milan or guna milan) is the Vedic astrological practice of comparing two people's birth charts before marriage to assess compatibility. It evaluates eight factors (Ashtakoot) for a score out of 36 and checks for conditions like Mangal Dosha that are traditionally considered relevant to marital harmony.
Out of a maximum 36 points, a score below 18 is generally considered inauspicious for marriage. 18–24 is acceptable. 24–32 is considered good and suitable for marriage. Above 32 is considered excellent. However, the score is not the only factor — the quality of specific kootas (Nadi and Bhakoot in particular) matters as much as the total, and overall chart compatibility can compensate for a modest score.
When both partners have Mangal Dosha, the doshas are traditionally considered to cancel each other out — the match is treated as if neither partner has the dosha. This is the most common and accepted resolution in Vedic astrology. Additionally, many kundlis with Mangal Dosha have specific cancellation factors (dosha bhanga) that reduce or eliminate the dosha's significance even in a mixed match.
Guna milan is one input into the decision, not the only one. Traditional Vedic astrology also examines the 7th house and its lord in both charts, the navamsha chart, Venus and Jupiter placements, and current dasha periods. More importantly, mutual respect, shared values, communication, and personal compatibility are factors that no astrological system can replace. Kundli matching works best as a framework for reflection, not a verdict.
The compatibility tool is available to Mystic and Oracle plan subscribers. Free (Stargazer) users can see the compatibility feature but will be prompted to upgrade to access the full reading. Oracle subscribers additionally get full Synastry chart analysis — the dual-ring planetary chart showing cross-chart aspects between both partners.
Kundli matching uses the Vedic Ashtakoot system — scoring specific nakshatra and planetary factors against each other for a numerical compatibility verdict. Synastry is a Western astrological technique that maps every planet in one person's chart against every planet in the other's, analyzing the aspects (angles) between them. AstroMystra offers both: Vedic kundli matching via the compatibility tool, and full synastry chart visualization for Oracle subscribers.
